Kicking off the holiday weekend, INDY NXT by Firestone returned to the famed Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course for the seventh round of the Championship. Christian Bogle again joined HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing for his sixth race at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the span of three years.
After finishing the two practice sessions in 14th and 12th, Bogle and the team of HMD Motorsports engineers, coaches, and mechanics put their heads together to improve in the upcoming qualifying session. Bogle finished the 20-minute qualifying session in the tenth and scored his best starting position of the 2023 INDY NXT by Firestone season with a time of 1:12.2090 on the 2.258-mile course.
With cloudy skies above and a slight mist of rain over the track, drivers took the track on Sunday morning for the INDY NXT by Firestone Grand Prix at Mid-Ohio. Taking the green flag from tenth, Bogle initially fell back a couple of positions on the start as drivers scrambled for track position throughout the field. Six laps later, however, Bogle spun off course after hitting some water brought on to track by another competitor and into the grass, bringing out a full-course caution as the INDYCAR Safety Team pulled him back on track and restarted his #7 Pelican Energy car. While he was not yet out of the race, Bogle restarted the race one lap down from the field. Continuing with his race for the next 20 laps before pulling into the pit lane with engine issues, Bogle officially retired from the race.
While the NTT INDYCAR SERIES will head to Toronto in two weeks’ time, INDY NXT by Firestone and Christian Bogle will have a short break before returning alongside INDYCAR at Iowa Speedway for their first oval race of the season, July 21-22.
